In the works! After 20 seasons of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, the Kardashian-Jenner family is ready to end that journey and focus on a brand new one.

Kim Kardashian announced in September 2020 that their hit reality show would be ending the following year.

“It is with heavy hearts that we’ve made the difficult decision as a family to say goodbye to Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” the KKW founder wrote via Instagram at the time. “After what will be 14 years, 20 seasons, hundreds of episodes and numerous spin-off shows, we are beyond grateful to all of you who’ve watched us for all of these years — through the good times, the bad times, the happiness, the tears, and the many relationships and children. We’ll forever cherish the wonderful memories and countless people we’ve met along the way.”

She continued, “Thank you to the thousands of individuals and businesses that have been a part of this experience and, most importantly, a very special thank you to [series cocreator] Ryan Seacrest for believing in us, E! for being our partner, and our production team at Bunim/Murray, who’ve spent countless hours documenting our lives.”

After the Skims owner confirmed that KUWTK would be ending after more than a decade on E!, a source told Us Weekly that the decision was a long time coming.

“The ladies were done with long hours and think they are famous enough without the show to make all their money online,” the source exclusively told Us.

The famous family, who have shared their lives since the reality show debuted in 2007, was ready for a break from showing everything. The ladies, Kim, Kris Jenner, Khloé Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian, Kendall Jenner and Kylie Jenner, were all looking for a change.

“They’re business people first and foremost, and it’s very obvious to those around them who are in the know that they can make a ton more for a lot less hassle by pursuing opportunities elsewhere,” a second insider explained.

A month later, Hulu revealed that the family signed a major multiyear deal to create new content for the streaming service. Not much has been revealed about what fans can expect yet, but with KUWTK wrapping up its final season in June, there have been some teases about the future.

“There are endless options available to them and every day throws up even more possibilities, so it’s really an exciting period for the whole family, albeit pretty nerve-wracking,” the insider added in September 2021.

Hulu dropped the first teaser for the new show — simply titled The Kardashians — on December 31, 2021. In the quick clip, the family wished their fans Happy New Year. The streaming service also released a synopsis for the show which reads: “The Kardashian/Jenner family bring their exciting next chapter to Hulu in this new, intimate journey into their lives.”

In February, the network shared a new promo video that announced the show’s premiere date: Thursday, April 14.

The commercial included all the Kardashian women posing in different shades of white as they break out of glass boxes. “All the walls will be shattered,” the tagline teases.

The matriarchy of the family shared in April 2021 that everyone was still figuring out what their content with Hulu would look like. “We haven’t really nailed down the exact format yet, but we’re working on it.” Kris told WSJ. Magazine. After being asked where she sees her family empire in 10 years she responded, “We’ll be on Hulu and hopefully thriving, doing what we love to do and being exactly where we’re supposed to be.” Shutterstock

As the final season of KUWTK aired, Kim took to social media to promise that this was only the beginning for her family. "We won't be gone long!! Our new show on @hulu will be coming after the final season," the reality star responded to a fan via Twitter in April. After the May 13, 2021, episode of the show explored Scott Disick's worries that he would drift apart from everyone, Kim hinted more about what the Hulu show will look like. "Scott is us about #KUWTK ending! were so heart broken" a fan tweeted following the episode. Kim responded, teasing, "But @ScottDisick is coming with us to Hulu sooooooo I get it BUT he will be back!!!!" Kristina Bumphrey/StarPix/Shutterstock

During a presentation at the Disney Upfronts to promote the new series, Kris hinted that this next chapter will have everyone tuning in. “Partnering with Disney was a no-brainer, we’re huge Bachelor fans and I love American Idol,” she said during the event in May 2021. “Hulu is the perfect place for our new show since it’s where you can currently catch up with every season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Hulu feels like family and they immediately embraced the idea of a new show with such open and welcoming arms.” She added: “This is the next chapter. In the new show, you’ll see us evolving as a family, fans want us to be who we are and since moment one, they’ve been emotionally invested in our show just like we are. The fans will love seeing us continue the journey. I can’t say much about what’s coming but spoiler, we’re going to look fabulous and everyone’s going to watch." Ryan Miller/Shutterstock

During a September 2021 interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the Selfish author said she wasn't sure whether Kourtney's boyfriend, Travis Barker, would film with the family. "I honestly haven't talked to them about it, but I'm assuming because he's such a big part of Kourtney's life that hopefully they will be on," she explained. "I love their relationship. They've grown so much together and have really made some amazing. ... To think that they've been neighbors and friends for almost 15 years — neighbors for, like, a decade."  The Skims founder also noted how much had already happened in everyone's lives since filming for KUWTK wrapped in 2020. "I will say this is the longest we haven't filmed for," she said, adding that they hadn't filmed for between six and 10 months. "It's crazy how since we've had this free time, all of the stuff that's gone on — whether it's, like, this relationship, or Kourtney's relationship, or whoever's. It's, like, people have had this free time off and had these beautiful new relationships blossom, and it's gonna be really fun and interesting to see filming dynamics and us back together." The TV personality admitted during a September 2021 interview on The Late Late Show With James Corden that having such a long break from filming between the end of KUWTK and the beginning of the new series was "weird at first" — and she wasn't the only one who missed the cameras. "Oh, my God, [my mom] was pushing to start filming ASAP," the Strong Looks Better Naked author teased. "She missed it like crazy." Kris, who was in the audience, owned up to it and added, "I said, 'We have to start filming, it's an emergency!' And they said, 'What's the emergency?' I said, 'I don't know, but I'll think of something.'" Courtesy of YouTube

In October 2021, the Selfish author told the Wall Street Journal that the new show will focus more on her professional life than KUWTK did. “I think it will be a different side," she explained, noting that the family will retain editing rights on the series.
