Our Spidey senses are tingling! Spider-Man: No Way Home promises to give us more of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker — and maybe a few other Spider-Men.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is heading full speed ahead into the Spider-Verse, which, based on the film’s teaser trailer, is full of early 2000s nostalgia. Our friendly neighborhood superhero is running into a few old foes including the Green Goblin, Electro and Doctor Otto “Ock” Octavius.

After Peter’s identity was exposed by Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) at the end of 2019’s Spider-Man: Far Away Home, he asks fellow Avenger Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) to use his magic to help him get back his anonymity.

Unfortunately, Strange breaks open the multiverse and supervillains from alternate realities arrive to hunt Peter down, according to the first trailer. That includes Doc Ock, played by Alfred Molina, who originated the role of the scientist turned villain in 2004’s Spider-Man 2 starring Tobey Maguire.

Holland told Entertainment Weekly that getting the chance to work with Molina was a blast from Spider-Man movie’s past. “It was really fun to watch him see how technology has advanced,” the Cherry star told the publication in October. “When he was making these films, the arms were puppets, and when we did it, they’re all imaginary and CG. It was quite cool to see him relive it, but also relearn it.”

The trailer for No Way Home hints at possible crossover moments with not only the Sam Raimi-directed films, but The Amazing Spider-Man franchise starring Andrew Garfield. While Holland is staying mum about the details of the film, he told EW that he sees the movie as the end of an era.

“We were all treating [No Way Home] as the end of a franchise, let’s say,” he noted. “I think if we were lucky enough to dive into these characters again, you’d be seeing a very different version. It would no longer be the Homecoming trilogy.”

The Uncharted actor continued, “We would give it some time and try to build something different and tonally change the films. Whether that happens or not, I don’t know. But we were definitely treating [No Way Home] like it was coming to an end, and it felt like it.”

The Cast
Holland returns in the titular role alongside his fellow Spider-Man staples including Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau and J.K. Simmons as Jonah Jameson, who made his film debut in 2002’s Spider-Man. The movie will also include familiar faces reprising their previous superhero and supervillain roles including Cumberbatch and Molina. Willem Dafoe is rumored to be reprising his role as the Green Goblin, who appears in the November movie poster. Jamie Foxx, who played Electro in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, will also appear, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While Kirsten Dunst, the original Mary Jane, denied any involvement in the upcoming movie, she told Variety in November that it would "be fun" to reprise her role someday. Shutterstock (3)
The Villains
The bad guys Spider-Man will have to beat in No Way Home seem to be the group better known as the Sinister Six. However, a November poster for the film only appears to tease four members of the squad: Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Electro and Green Goblin. Fans will have to wait and see if the other villains who are part of the group — Mysterio, Vulture and Kraven the Hunter — make a cameo in the movie. No spoilers here, but let’s not forget that Mysterio appeared to have died in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Sony/Marvel/Kobal/Shutterstock
Is Andrew Garfield Returning?
The Tick, Tick … Boom! star has denied any involvement in No Way Home since he was first asked in May and said his alleged cameo was “f--king hilarious.” That same month Garfield told Entertainment Tonight that he “closed the book” on reprising the role. “I haven’t need[ed] to think about it, so it’s not something that I really considered,” he said. “That’s my honest answer.”Months later, Garfield admitted to Variety that he understood the excitement surrounding the movie and his possible connection to it. “You can’t help but imagine scenes and moments of ‘Oh, my God, how f--king cool would it be if they did that?’” he told the magazine in September. “But it’s important for me to say on the record that this is not something I’m aware I am involved in.”However, he told Jimmy Fallon in September that “if [Sony and Marvel] want to give me a call at this late, late stage in the game,” he would be onboard. "I’m sitting here in my tracksuit,” he joked.Another sign Garfield may be telling the truth? In November, Holland told Total Film that the actors are not returning. "People don’t believe me when I say that [Maguire and Garfield] are not coming back,” he said. “But people are going to have to believe me at some point." Columbia/Kobal/Shutterstock
How ‘No Way Home’ Connects to Past ‘Spider-Man’ Films
When talking to Total Film in November, Holland admitted that the new film “means a lot to me” — but it will also mean a lot to fans of the old Spider-Man films.“The first time you see Doc and the rest of the characters that come back, it’s so exciting — and it’s such a huge moment in cinematic history,” he teased. “It’s three generations coming together." Behind-the-Scenes Issues
Holland detailed changes made to the plot due to COVID-19 related delays and Marvel moving up the new Spider-Man movie instead of shooting the Doctor Strange sequel. “You could ask the director, ‘What happens in act three?’ And his response would be, ‘I’m still trying to figure it out,’” the actor told GQ in November 2021, noting they rewrote the finale scene the day of. “We sat down, we went through it, and we came up with a new idea. Then we pitched it to the writers, they rewrote it, and it works great.” Marvel/YouTube
