So much for their happy ending. Jed Wyatt and Hannah Brown went on quite the journey after meeting on season 15 of The Bachelorette.
During the May 2019 premiere, Wyatt became the third man to meet Brown — and he wooed her almost immediately. The singer-songwriter played guitar for her when they first got time alone on night one, and the pair’s romance took off from there.
It appeared to be smooth sailing for the lovestruck duo from then on, until Wyatt met Brown’s parents. Wyatt figured out that they weren’t buying that he was on the show for the right reasons — and were skeptical that his songwriting career would be enough to provide for their daughter.
“It seems like they were mainly concerned with the financial aspect of our relationship,” Wyatt said during part one of the July 2019 finale. “They don’t think I’m adequate or something.”
Still, when the Nashville singer got down on one knee during the second part of the finale, the former pageant queen said yes!
However, the moment she returned home, Brown found out about Haley Stevens, Wyatt’s ex who has spoken out multiple times during the season with claims that they were in a relationship all along — and that he was just going on the show to further his music career.
With that, the Alabama native called it all off once she and Wyatt returned home to the U.S. after their Greece trip.
One year after Wyatt proposed to Brown, the Bachelor alum opened up about the moment, noting how hard it was to overcome the heartbreak she experienced shortly after the happy moment took place.
“If I could go back and tell [my May 2019 self] something, I would whisper, ‘It’s going to be OK,’” Brown wrote via Instagram in May 2020, alongside a photo of herself in Greece just before Wyatt asked for her hand.
She explained she would tell herself in that moment, “You’re right, this ain’t it, but it‘s the direction. So open up your hands, and let go of the control. Trust this process, it’s going to be worth it. Also, nice butt!”
Wyatt, for his part, spoke about his time with Brown during an October 2021 appearance on the “Reality Life With Kate Casey,” saying he doesn’t blame his ex-fiancée for how things ended.
“Hannah and I had similar southern upbringings. And that was something different than anyone else on the show. … I guess [she] and I just [had] that kind of connection, and it felt comfortable,” he said on the podcast. “But on top of that, you know, when you have a lot of people in your ear … I can see that I was definitely pushed in that direction, I’m sure she was too. And it’s like, really hard to, like, listen to your gut.”
In November 2021, Brown released her memoir, God Bless This Mess, in which she again spoke about the failed engagement, revealing she almost said no to the proposal.
“I was caught up in the magic and the fantasy of it all when all of a sudden he got down on one knee and pulled out a ring, and I thought … No. I can’t. This isn’t what it is supposed to be like,” she wrote. “I said yes anyway. It’s hard to explain how conflicted I felt. Jed hadn’t done anything wrong. I cared about him. And the engagement itself was dreamy — but it wasn’t necessarily my dream.”

While Brown and Wyatt’s season of the ABC was still airing news broke that the country crooner was in a relationship with Stevens ahead of going on the show. While Wyatt denied that he was actually dating Stevens once he left for California to film the series, Stevens exclusively told Us Weekly that the two agreed to stay together once he was back in Nashville, claiming he was only on the show to further his music career. “I had to take a step back and make a sacrifice for a couple of months or a number of weeks for him to be able to have this opportunity,” she told Us in June 2019. “I was like, ‘OK, I love him. I can do anything for six weeks. We can do anything for six weeks, two months.’” Stevens claimed that once Wyatt returned home from filming it was two weeks before he called her. The musician sang Brown a song during the season 15 finale before proposing to her while they were in Greece. Brown revealed during the season 15 finale that her engagement to Wyatt was short-lived. She explained that she called off the relationship over the phone, after learning of his romance with Stevens shortly after Wyatt asked her to marry him. The former pageant queen reunited with the Nashville resident during the season 15 After the Final Rose special. She confronted him about their brief engagement and the rocky way things ended. “It’s so messed up. It’s just sad,” Brown told Wyatt on the live show. “What you did was not right and not good, but I did fall in love with you. And I know that that person’s in there, and I just hope that from this you will be honest and learn and grow into the man that I do believe that you can be for whoever in your future.” Later during the show, Brown reconnected with runner-up Tyler Cameron and asked him on a date. The exes ran into each other at Dylan Barbour and Hannah Godwin’s engagement party for the first time since their breakup. “Everybody was having a good time — it was fun. Her and Jed, they were all fine. Everybody was fine,” Brown’s pal Demi Burnett told Entertainment Tonight after the event. “I think Hannah’s doing everything she needs to be doing and she’s figuring it out. Her life has been so busy for so long and so now she’s getting to reconvene with all her friends. Wyatt reflected on his and Hannah’s split during an appearance on the “Reality Life With Kate Casey” podcast, claiming the Bachelorette producers wouldn’t let him tell her about his ex Stevens in private. “I got into the habit of reading some of the things that people were saying [about me]. And then got in the habit of feeling like I needed to respond, which I did, [but] I don’t owe anything to anyone,” he explained, noting he thought fans’ reaction the drama was “comical” at first. “The only [person] that I needed to talk to at the time was Hannah. … no one else needed to know anything.” The Knoxville, Tennessee, native claimed that the showrunners “absolutely insisted” that he “hash it out with [Hannah] in person.” He alleged that the point of doing it publicly was so that viewers could “come at me and totally just roast me.” He recalled receiving “thousands” of negative DMs after the breakup played out on TV. “It would [be full] of people just saying crazy stuff, like, suicidal stuff, jump off a bridge, like, ‘You should kill yourself. Hannah recalled her time in the fantasy suites during season 15 of The Bachelorette when writing her memoir, God Mess This Bless, noting why she chose to sleep with both Wyatt and third-place contestant Peter Weber. “I slept with more men in one week than I’d slept with in my entire life,” she wrote, explaining that Weber’s date was first and then three days later she had sex with Wyatt. “The sex wasn’t as good as it was with Peter,” she admitted, noting that she felt “safe” with the singer and knew she wanted to pick him, which was one of the reasons she didn’t sleep with Cameron during his overnight date. Hannah later revealed that after she and Wyatt got engaged, she told him that she had slept with Weber during their fantasy suite date. “He wanted to know if he was better in bed than Peter, and I lied and said ‘Yes.’ I didn’t want to bruise his ego any more than it was already bruised,” she wrote. “He also asked me if his thing was bigger than Peter’s.
